Positive Gains to Improve Ticket Legislation in Massachusetts, USA

Recently, Massachusetts legislators held a public debate on how to deregulate and improve the state’s antiquated ticket resale laws. The proposed bill includes language that allows market rates to dictate ticket sales, in addition to wording that directly certifies that consumers do not need to obtain a state license in order to resell tickets. The legislative language also requires ticket issuers using paperless ticketing systems to offer the choice of purchasing a transferable paper ticket at the initial point of sale. StubHub, TechNet and the Internet Association testified in favor of the bill. No parties testified in opposition to the bill. MA legislators have until February of 2018 to act on this legislation. The Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure hosted this public debate.
